Tour: Turner Watercolours
Description: The National Gallery of Ireland received a bequest of 31 beautiful watercolours by J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) from English collector Henry Vaughan in 1900. One of the conditions of the bequest was that they are only to be displayed in the month of January. These fascinating paintings demonstrate the fluidity and confidence of Turner’s style and they vibrancy of his palette. This hour long tour will place the paintings within the context of the artist’s oeuvre and the time in which they were created, particularly in regards to Romanticism.
